Thank you Derek. I had been wondering how to get to that menu. I use it a lot on my Panasonic.
Where are the other members and their posting?
HAppy weekend.

That's terrific, the little flower symbol is the indicator for 'Macro'' (close up), ther is a setting for flowers in the SP section on the program dial. You get to it by selecting either SP1 or SP2 then press menu and scroll through all the programs to find it, there are the usual ones; sunset, snow, night, fireworks, dogs, cats, etc, some are quite useful, have a look.
Blessings

Hi Sylvia, I have to say, I am relieved that you are happy with the HS30 after my recommendations. I have just viewed the flower pictures on the gallery, they are superb, well done! Did you use the manual focus? Did you also use the SP Flower setting?
Good shooting

Well whatever turns him on I suppose, it may lead into other things, he took some nice pictures whilst you were in London, so that my inspire him to branch out. Photographers are out there that specialise in motor sport, so it may lead on. Why not get him to register on this site, that could encourage him, maybe LOL.

Those were Adam's photos Derek. I really want him to start being interested in photography and he was given a Nikon Coolpix as a "Stocking Filler" for Christmas. He mainly took photos of CARS :-)

My apologies, I have just been back to the Gallery and seen your Cable Car picture, great reflections and rich colour, congratulations on your first upload.

What a shame, sounds like you missed a great photo-opportunity with that Cable Car at dusk, but then taking photographs can be very distracting from seeing the sights, but I'm afraid getting the image would be most important for me.
I hope you are by now getting your heads around the HS30 and are having a good play with it in the safety of your home, that's the way to investigate the features. Like the one for taking pictures of dogs. Not sure if they have included that on the HS30, but I found this neat application that takes a picture automatically when the dog looks at the camera, it just detects when it sees two eyes and operates the shutter. I do wish I had had that feature when I had the studio, getting a dog to look at you was always a problem and you invariably missed the shot, ending up with an image of a blurred head. The other feature that is worth playing with is the manual focus, this is particularly useful when shooting through things like tree branches (for birds) or railings, etc. The Adv mode is also great, with its Pro Focus and Pro Low Light programs, both worth trying out. Hope to see some results soon.
Have you tried uploading to the site yet? I keep looking in the forum and in the Photo Gallery but so far I've been disappointed. The pictures that I posted yesterday are the ones that I used to work through the instruction sheet, so it sort of proves the method works.
Happy snapping\

Thank you so much Derek.
Well, because we still don't have the filter we decided to NOT take the HS30 with us on Saturday.
Our son took his Nikon Coolpix and took some great shots.
We went on teh "Cable Car" across the Thames ~ at dusk. So exciting.
Oh, he aslo took lots and lots of photos of CARS!
The ones we could never afford to buy :-)
2.00 to use the loos in HARRODS!

Hi Sylvia, I am still sorting things out on this site, I have put some basic information on the 'Clinic' discussion on the [Forum] page, sadly it is not quite as simple as Premier, but once we all get used to it I am sure it will become second nature. Have a look at the discussion, if you have any problems let me know here or e-mail me.
Well I hope you didn't loose you new HS30, I have very nearly lost a camera but never actually done it. Once when I was a kid I left it over the back of a chair in a restaurant and had to go back for it after half an hour, fortunately it was still there. I must say I am looking forward to seeing some images from the HS30 I am sure you and your husband have enough skill between you to produce some great shots.
BTW the easy way to upload is by creating an Album for your pictures in the [Photo Gallery] section, you just brows for the image you want to upload, and when it has uploaded, just click on the [Submit] button at the bottom.

Off to London tomorrow with our new camera.
The last time we travelled with a camera ~ where my husband was responsible ~ we came home without a camera.
He's lost two.
Watch this space.
